Phoenix KinderNest“Receive the child in reverence; educate the child in love; send the child forth in freedom.”
– Rudolf Steiner
The Importance of Environment
Our children will eventually go out into the world as independent learners, ready to explore and conquer the world on their own! However, growing accustomed to the process of formal learning and education while simultaneously being asked to adapt to the unfamiliar classroom environment can be an overwhelming experience for young children. Phoenix KinderNest provides students with developmentally appropriate, academic education within the comforts of a home environment. With less energy being needed to adapt to one’s surroundings, more is available to fully engage in the learning process. What better way to begin one’s educational journey!
experiential learning
It is POSSIBLE to teach kids to memorize skills very early in their development, but pushing skills before building the capacity to learn will not foster the same depth of learning and growth that IS POSSIBLE when the capacity to learn is first given the attention its due. Phoenix KinderNest introduces children to formal classroom instruction, but encourages learning primarily through the use of hands-on and creative educational experiences. While worksheets and assignments will always have their place in childhood education, my students will also have the opportunity to learn math, language, and social skills through story-telling, exploring nature, cooking, play, music, and so much more.
Curriculum
Reading/Writing
Students will learn to identify letters and their phoentic sounds, and will begin practicing early writing skills.
Math/Science
Children will practice identifying numbers, counting, and learn how to apply these skills during daily life and play.
Science/Nature
Students will be introduced to different plants, animals, and their natural habitats. They will learn about the seasons of the year and engage in guided explorations of the world around them.
ART/PLAY
This curriculum educates “head, heart, and hands” through the use of crafts, storytelling, singing, and free play where children can practice problem solving, self-expression, and developing social skills.
Our aim in education is to give a full life. We owe it to them to initiate an immense number of interests. Life should be all living, and not merely a tedious passing of time; not all doing or all feeling or all thinking – the strain would be too great – but, all living; that is to say, we should be in touch wherever we go, whatever we hear, whatever we see, with some manner of vital interest.
